Role Summary/Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is the safe and reliablescale-up of high purity materials for customers in the semiconductor andelectronics industry. The person in this role will work as part of the pilotproduction team, to perform small-scale synthesis reactions for new andexisting materials, as well as operate production equipment and monitorprocesses, according to documented work instructions. This role will also be responsible formanaging customer sample requests for new materials, and developing andexecuting product reliability studies during product scale-up.

Essential Responsibilities

* Execute small-scale synthesis reactions usingstandard glassware and benchtop equipment according to documented workinstructions. Operate pilot-scale mixand blend equipment to prepare sample materials for customer and internaltrails.

* Work with R&D teams and Engineering toscale-up processes from R&D lab to pilot production scale and high volumemanufacturing. The chemist will supportthe development and execution of reliability studies, including shelf-lifestudies, filtration studies, mixing studies and the development ofmanufacturing procedures for new products.

* Monitor the performance and progress ofexperimental batches and document using lab notebook, paper batch records,computer-controlled DCS systems and Excel templates. Work to identify key process input variablesthat need to be controlled to produce the required product.

* Work with manufacturing teams, Quality and Engineeringto transfer processes and key controls to high volume manufacturing.

* Support Engineering troubleshooting of new andexisting products by conducting experiments and DOEs to identify control leversor screen raw material variables.

Qualifications

* BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, orequivalent experience in lab or small scale manufacturing environment.

* 1 ? 3 years of experience in a research or pilotproduction lab environment required.

* Candidates must demonstrate excellent attentionto detail to ensure product quality and safe chemical handling.

* Experience in new product development andproduct scale-up preferred.

* Experience and basic understanding of chemicalhazards and reactions is necessary for safe operation in the lab. Familiarity with rotary-evaporator, variabletransformers, and thermocouples is preferred.

* Basic computer and lab notebook skills required.Familiarity with operation of automated systems and data historians is desired.

* Familiarity with basic SPC techniques, FMEAs anddesign of experiments is preferred.
