Job Description

Job Description:

The VMware Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing technologies for the automation and orchestration of the enterprise datacenters and cloud environments. This role involves creating standard processes and procedures for the automation of server and software management. The Automation Engineer must be able to work effectively with the Enterprise Architects, OS engineers, and operations support teams to determine requirements, develop guidelines and serve as a subject matter expert for the enterprise automation solution.

Duties include:

?? Analyzing requirements, designing and developing software supporting API implementations and/or interfaces between management components and enterprise automation applications.

?? Developing workflows and scripts to automate the provisioning and maintenance of servers, services and applications, including, but not limited to, provisioning and decommissioning of workloads in a VMware environment, installation, configuration or removal of applications and OS modifications.

?? Integrating the enterprise automation application with a self-service IT management portal to allow for a zero touch deployment.

?? Defining, creating, and maintaining processes required to support production and development environments through the use of automation scripts, third party tools, utilities, or custom code.

?? Defining and maintaining infrastructure products and component standards for automation and orchestration capabilities to deliver a flexible, scalable, secure, reliable, resilient, and cost effective set of datacenter and cloud services.

?? Providing technical leadership and assume overall accountability for the successful management and implementation of the automation solution.

?? Developing standard operating procedures and user guides for the enterprise automation solution.

Required Education/Skills:

a. Certifications VCP6-DCV and VCP6-CMA/VCP7-CMA

b. Strong experience with VMware vSphere virtualization technologies, including vCenter Server, VMware vRealize Automation, VMware vRealize Orchestrator, and VMware vRealize Operations Manager

c. VMware vRealize Automation and Orchestrator integrations with third party products, including Infoblox, ServiceNow, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet

d. Scripting and programming experience, including JavaScript, Python, Perl, Ruby and Bash scripting languages

e. Experience working with a variety of vendor APIs

f. Experience in creating fully-automated server OS build and configuration processes

g. Familiarity with Microsoft and Linux server OS

h. Good knowledge of Active Directory, GPOs, DNS and other Windows core services

i. Ability to learn new products and technologies

j. Ability to develop standard operating procedures and project documentation

k. Ability to research solutions for various business needs and technical problems; this includes evaluating alternatives and providing recommendations

l. Excellent communication skills to explain technical information and requirements effectively to others both orally and written

m. Familiarity with principles and practice of system configuration and change management

Desired Education/Skills:

a. ITIL?? Intermediate Level Certification

b. Certifications RHSA, RHCE, VCAP6-DVC, VCAP6-CMA Design/Deploy, VCIX6-CMA

c. Experience with the Red Hat Cloudforms cloud management platform

d. Experience with the Ansible, Chef or Puppet automation

e. Interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate effectively, self-awareness, and excellent written and oral communications

f. Experience with IT service management best practices such as change, problem, incident, configuration and service level management is strongly preferred
