Assists in the planning, development and assessment of the Day Care Centers(YSC and SRC) for children aged three months to five years. In conjunction with the Director, is responsible for the administrative, staffing, financial, communication and program aspects of the Day Care Center.


  • 1. Plans, directs and supports the activities of staff involved in providing for the physical, emotional, social and educational needs of children aged three months to five years.
  • 2. Assists director in supervising classrooms to ensure compliance with all accreditation and licensing guidelines.
  • 3. Collaborates and makes recommendations to the Director on budget planning and accounting practices with the Center.
  • 4. Participates in the enrollment process; describes all elements of the program effectively, assists in screening and assessing applicants.
  • 5. Assists Director in screening, assessing and selecting staff.
  • 6. Collaborates with the Director in formulating program goals and objectives, staffing plans and procedures.
  • 7. Assists in facilitating staff/parent interactions and participation.
  • 8. Recruits and trains substitute. Arranges for substitute coverage when any staff member is absent.
  • 9. Orients staff members and parents to the Center.
  • 10. Assists in training and supervising student interns and volunteers.
  • 11. Assists Director in preparing written proposals, reports and program descriptions for the Hospital and the community.
  • 12. Responsible for compiling all financial and administrative reports for New Haven School Readiness program.
  • 13. Assists Director in supervising classrooms to ensure compliance with all accreditation and licensing guidelines.
  • 14. Responsible for preparing payroll deduction authorizations, changes and termination for all hospital affiliated families.
  • 15. Plans and conducts staff in-services and trainings on a variety of topics including 'supporting special needs children in the classroom, pre-literacy, and diversity'.
  • 16. Supports staff in providing developmentally appropriate care for children with special needs in the classroom.
  • 17. Assumes responsibilities for the department in the Director's absence.
  • Qualifications EDUCATION

    Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Special Education with a Preschool concentration, or equivalent - Master's Degree or enrolled in a Master's degree program in education or administration strongly preferred. A minimum of 9 credits in administration, leadership, finance or management.


    8 to 10 years experience in teaching young children including work with infant, toddler, preschool and special needs groups. 5 to 8 years experience supervising early childhood education teachers.


    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Organizational, mentoring, and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to support and enhance staff development with a philosophical approach that is consistent with the developmental foundation of the Day Care.
