The Minimally Invasive Therapies Group strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions. SURGICAL INNOVATIONS sets the standard for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) by creating innovative surgical products and services that focus on obesity and diseases and conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, lung, abdominal wall, pelvic region, and the head and neck.

A Day in the Life

You will set the strategy and directs all aspects of Packaging Engineering for Medtronic's Minimally Invasive Therapies Group. You will determine and execute an overall strategic plan that is focused on providing packaging solutions that are customer centric, fully compliant to FDA and International Quality System regulations and leading the industry in the area of sustainability and cost control. In collaboration with business leadership, you will drive innovation in Packaging Engineering to support New

Product Development and Operations sustaining engineering. You will lead a team of packaging engineering professionals with a focus on driving excellence in package design and process technology.

You will direct the activities at multiple sites for New Product Development packaging activities including research, design, development and support for new products. You will also set the strategy for Sustaining Packaging Engineering across multiple global sites while focusing on packaging processes and product improvements that improve cost, ensure compliance and uninterrupted customer supply.

You will:

* Be responsible for driving execution of packaging strategy across multiple sites and across all global locations.

* Drive new levels of packaging excellence across global locations to ensure long term manufacturing stability.

* Develop strategic solutions to complex projects in multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.

* Drive strategies for packaging development focused on innovation, sustainability and cost improvements to ensure strong competitive ability and fulfillment of customer needs.

* Provide leadership and direction to the Packaging Engineering team to ensure project deliverables are fully met.

* Champion risk management activities and drive implementation of mitigation plans.

* Collaborate with Sourcing to develop Sourcing Strategies focused on year over year cost reductions and uninterrupted supply of packaging components.

* Leverage strategic and technical expertise in order to objectively assess potential technologies which align with business strategies.

* Champion broad in-depth technical feasibility assessments for applicable technologies including corollary effects on supply chain, manufacturing, cost drivers, potential IP issues and customer impact.

* Participate in the creation of partnerships and joint development programs with suppliers, universities and other research organizations.

* Identify and champion strategies for cost savings related to packaging design or process.

* Commercialize new products with innovative packaging solutions on time and at high quality levels resulting in successful completion of NPD projects within schedule, budget and scope.

* Interface with customers and Marketing to ensure designs align with user requirements and are customer centric.

* Oversee all department budgets.

* Manage workloads and develop resource plans.

* Oversee creation of documentation and specifications for packaging procedures, designs and processes.

* Create a culture of Accountability.

* Provide professional development opportunities for Packaging Engineering Team members.

* Provide performance feedback to team members through quarterly Talent Leadership Reviews (TLRs) and informal discussions.

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications

You must hold a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Packaging Engineering with 10 plus years applicable technical experience, inlcuding 5 years experience in a management position.

* Experience with medical packaging

* Working knowledge of PC software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and manufacturing ERP and PLM systems.

Nice to Have

* Masters degree a plus

* Understanding of Regulatory pathways for medical device manufacturing a plus
