This position is responsible for the management, design, deployment, maintenance and administration of data networking technologies at Alexion sites. Provide project planning, project implementation and operational support in all networking disciplines, including service provider circuit ordering and provisioning; network hardware and software maintenance; administration of routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless controllers, etc.; configuration and troubleshooting of routing protocols, DNS, and DHCP; and support of networking functionality for enterprise applications.

Principal Responsibilities:

* Design project plans to meet specific business or technology objectives, using existing technology standards and designs whenever possible.

* Manage global internal and external network services by defining objectives, budget, and strategy.

* Provide insight and guidance to Network Team to develop project plans for standard and non-standard use cases.

* Ensure the smooth operation of the Alexion voice and data LAN WAN environments in order to provide maximum performance and availability for our users, clients, customers, and suppliers.

* Ability to interpret and create meticulously accurate network blueprints and documentation.

* Design and architect network solutions to business and management initiatives.

* Define critical network initiatives as to allow Network Engineers to seamlessly provide operational excellence within the Alexion global infrastructure.

* Manage operational network support, including day-to-day network changes, maintenance, enhancements and emergency response, as required.

* Oversee and create rotating on-call support schedule for both internal and external resources.

* Mentor junior IT team members. Knowledge Sharing

* Travel up to 10% for on-site operational support, network discovery or project execution.


* 8-10 plus years progressive experience in network support and engineering within an enterprise environment.

* Administrative level experience with Cisco-based routing and switching, service provider WAN and internet circuits, hardware and software components on a wide variety of network devices.

* Outstanding discovery and documentation skills.

* Experience managing third party vendors for operational support, carrier negotiations, and monitoring.

* Solid data center experience, including Cisco Nexus and VMware virtualization networking concepts.

* Excellent understanding of TCP/IP, dynamic routing and route redistribution, Ethernet LAN switching, load balancing, and IPSec VPN.

* Solid experience with firewalls and access-lists.

* Solid experience with wireless networks and controllers.

* Excellent troubleshooting skills, including at the protocol level, using a Cisco NetFlow technologies as well as network sniffers.

* Experience with SNMP-based monitoring.

* Excellent cabling habits, including proper labeling.

* Unix skills (Linux, OpenBSD) a plus.

* DNS and DHCP expertise highly desirable.

* Willingness to learn as well as teach.


* Cisco Certified Network Administrator (preferred, but not required)

* BS in Computer Science or Management Information Systems
