These values-integrity, patient-centered, respect, accountability, and compassion-must guide what we do, as individuals and professionals, every day.The Clinical Technologist works under and reports directly to the Technical Supervisor of the Clinical Cell Processing Laboratory in the Blood Bank. This Technologist is responsible for performing the processing and required testing in the Clinical Cell Processing Laboratory to ensure it meets the needs of the patients in the Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH) Cell Transplantation and Immunotherapy programs. In addition, this position will assist with routine tasks in the Stem Cell Laboratory when available.EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran

Responsibilities

* 1. Technical Competency: demonstrates technical competency in the performance of routine and complex cell processing, quality control, quality assurance and validation.

* 1.1 Performs donor and recipient testing prior to and following transplantation per protocols.

* 2. Recordkeeping, Documentation, and Computer Skills: Provides for accurate documentation and reporting of results to ensure quality of patient care by demonstrating good computer and recordkeeping skills.

* 2.1 Clearly, legibly, and accurately completes any hand written record. Corrects handwriting mistakes according to standards.

* 3. Independence/Initiative: Demonstrates independent thinking and action. Demonstrates ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, and problem solve.

* 3.1 Recognizes situations that are inconsistent with policy or procedure. Documents all occurrences as required and performs immediate corrective action as necessary. Makes recommendations for improvements that can be made as a result of the occurrence.

* 4. Professionalism: Demonstrates professionalism at all times both in attitude and in approach to all work activities.

* 4.1 Demonstrates by example the importance of teamwork. Fosters a team approach to completing work and offers to help others. Maintains positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, physicians and hospital staff.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

BS degree in a Biological science or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of and practical experience in aseptic techniques, knowledge of good manufacturing practices, experience in methods for processing patient cells and/or tissues for clinical transplantation/immunotherapy. Experience in computer programs such as Microsoft Access, Excel and Word. Minimum of 2-3 years experience working in a research lab or equivalent experience with cell processing

SPECIAL SKILLS

Knowledge of stem cell regulation and accreditation requirements preferred. Familiarity with personal computer (Excel, Word) desired. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interact with clinical trial sponsors and other hospital staff required. Must have excellent organizational skills.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Works predominantly in a clean room environment requiring the use of protective gowning often for prolonged periods of time. Requires the handling of liquid nitrogen and potentially biohazardous matierials. Expected to deliver products to patient's bedside and collect products from operating suites and other locations.

Additional Information

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH CELL THERAPY PROCESSING IN A GMP LABORATORY REQUIRED.
