T&D Operations Job Location: Orange, CT Reports to: Supervisor, T&D Operations Business and Department UI - 100 Orange Orange,CT Description Job Overview: The Transmission & Distribution Operations Engineer will review, analyze and coordinate moderate to complex planned construction and customer projects, maintenance requirements and responses to system disturbances related to the operation of the Transmission and Distribution system. Review, approve and coordinate moderately complex planned outages and clearance requests. Coordinate work with other departments within UI, external customers and other outside system operators (e.g. ISO, CONVEX, NUSCO). Participate on teams/projects that solve moderately complex problems, taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Able to work independently with minimal guidance. Must be available for on-call and emergency response as necessary. Key Responsibilities:

* Perform moderately complex system analyses, design and calculations using standard methodology and principles, and other viable approaches. Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.

* Solve moderately complex system operating and customer Engineering Problems. Analyze and assess solutions using standard procedures and identify innovative solutions. Investigate and analyze outage events, power quality or system Distribution and identify areas for reliability improvement.

* Prepare, maintain and understand drawings (e.g. schematics, one-line diagrams). Develop and specify equipment, assemble documents and other requirements for assignments of moderate to complex level of difficulty.

* Represent T&D Operations & Maintenance on assigned project teams. Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and provide guidance to other team members on Operations & Maintenance issues (e.g. review and evaluate proposals and projects).

* Provide expertise to operators, dispatchers, drafters, designers, engineers and consultants. Interprets and make recommendations with respect to customer and stakeholder needs. Explain difficult issues and works to establish consensus.

* Promote cross functional teamwork on assigned tasks and projects. Provide direction for resources outside of the department. Promote and take actions that will strive to minimize any unacceptable effects on customers.

* Work independently to address moderately complex system operating situations. Apply design standards, industry codes, design criteria, guidelines and UI polices/procedures. Coordinate planned T&D system outages, clearance requests, and emergency systems.

* Develop conversion one-lines and write-ups, conduct conversion meetings, set up customer outages, manage the resulting day of conversion work and issue the circuit change notifications.

* Develop business cases and manage projects/processes/initiatives or teams in accordance with applicable UI guidelines. Provide technical input and coordinate phases of work for assigned portions of a project/program (e.g. clearance requests, URDs, conversions).

* Forecast, plan, schedule, monitor, control budget/estimates, for assigned tasks and/or projects. Produce complete and accurate construction and/or customer request documents in a timely manner and formally record all ownership/construction agreements. Requirements Education and Experience Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college/university and five years of experience performing engineering related duties. Possess a depth and breadth of experience in transmission/distribution engineering and the operation of the electric system, along with knowledge of internal/external business and regulatory issues (e.g. design criteria, standards, NESC). Maintains a knowledge of leading edge techniques or technology through participation in professional associations. Able to explain difficult concepts and influence others to change. Able to communicate effectively (oral and written) to regulatory and/or public entities. Able to work in a cross-functional team and guide or mentor other team members. Technical advocate within UI for customers. Demonstrated performance as a Transmission or Distribution Engineer.
