The Sr. Engineer of Telephony and Unified Communications will design and build critical components that make up Alexion's global Unified Collaboration services, including Avaya IP telephony, Microsoft Skype for Business, call center technical functions, and future cloud and on-premises communications technologies. This individual will report to the Associate Director of Unified Communications located in New Haven, CT. Incumbent will design and implement systems which will ensure high-availability, reliability, availability and optimization of telephony systems and services. They will help oversee on-and-offshore managed services personnel and vendor resources supporting the end-to-end enterprise solutions related to Unified Communications. The User-Experience (UX) centric engineer will be experienced in participating in converged unified communications projects simultaneously resource planning, designing, and executing across cross functional business units.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with Avaya telephony, Microsoft Skype for Business, routing & switching, security, overall network connectivity and operational support in a highly-available and transactional environment.

Responsibilities:

* Design, and build Alexion's global Unified Communications capabilities including Voice, Collaboration, and Mobility solutions.

* Assist in the support and management of on/off-shore 3rd party resources responsible for day-to-day UC operations

* Ensure alignment with Alexion's technology roadmap and change management efforts

* Actively participate in the infrastructure life cycle management strategy to deliver secure, redundant, and high performance

* Serves as the Tier 3 support team for Alexion's telephony and unified communications production environments

* Participate in complex projects across disparate technologies with cross functional teams

* Maintain expertise on all relevant innovations within infrastructure technology especially those pertinent to the pharmaceutical industry.

* Maximize the extensibility, scalability, availability, and elasticity of the Unified Communications environment leveraging the capacity of the Infrastructure team.

* Work closely with third party resources to manage, maintain and deliver a robust unified communications platform.

Qualifications & Accomplishments

* Preferred bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field, or 8 - 10 years proven experience

* Strong supplier management experience in working in a multi-vendor environment

* Strong customer focus with emphasis on usability and simplification, cloud, and mobility

* Proven experience in designing and managing a global Skype for Business/Lync 2013/2010 server environment with multiple pools dispersed geographically.

* Proven experience in designing and managing a complex IP telephony environment, including call control, dial-plan, voicemail, call center, etc.

* Proven experience in MPLS Wide Area Connectivity, Wireless, Access-Control, Policy Based Routing

* Proven experience in implementing and managing telephony circuits (SIP, PRI, etc.)

* Strong technical competency with the ability to lead by example and drive change

* Microsoft, Avaya, Cisco certifications preferred
