DESCRIPTION:

A Design/Test Engineer at RBC Bearings will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks including detail drawing creation for product engineering support, test planning, preparation of test reports, scheduling of test machine capacity, and ensuring all RBC Division lab equipment is calibrated and maintained. The successful Design /Test Engineer will be expected to take a leadership role in the testing of new/current products and validation of manufacturing processes as the RBC Division expands its current product offering into new applications with structural and environmental challenges beyond our current knowledgebase and capability. He/She must have excellent communication skills, and be a team player that has an obsessive drive to succeed within in a fast paced, challenging, and demanding environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

* Design Engineering, Tooling, Machine Design:

* Support RBC Division Product Design Engineers in the development of component detail drawings for various RBC Division products.

* Support RBC Division Product Design Engineers in the development of tooling and test rig concepts.

* Test Laboratory:

* Hands on lead in design and testing of mechanical components and electro-mechanical equipment.

* Develop equipment control and data acquisition system programming in Labview or MTS proprietary system software.

* Plan and coordinate test lab projects.

* Interface with RBC Division Engineers to review customer test specifications, prepare test plans, and present test data as necessary.

* Work with product managers and engineering to review customer test specifications, provide test plans, and quotations.

* Develop and maintain instrument calibration and equipment preventative maintenance schedules.

* Anticipate upcoming testing needs and continue to enhance test lab capabilities, including upgrades to existing machines and development of new machines, to meet those needs.

EDUCATION:

BS/Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

* Excellent communication skills with the capability to prepare and present concise technical information.

* 2-6 years of related experience.

* Proficiency in SolidWorks design software or equivalent.

* Programming experience in Labview desired.

* Hands on experience in testing of mechanical components, design of test equipment, failure analysis, electro-mechanical equipment and hydraulics.

* Minimal travel requirements of 5-10% to various suppliers including RBC facilities.
