Legal Specialist, II or Sr

Location: open to any location where Anthem has a main office.

The Legal Specialist will be responsible for providing legal support services for multiple states or functions and/or for a variety of legal assignments and projects which utilize knowledge specific to the company.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

* Prepares, memoranda, reports and /or filings and analyzes and evaluates regulations and legislation.

* Prepares and organizes case research, notes, and legal documents.

* Conducts legal research and analysis to provide support to different business segments..

* Performs fact checking, gathers documents, researches and responds to subpoenas and record requests and assists with investigative processes.

* Monitors state and federal legislation affecting the Individual and Group Business..

* Identifies required information for databases or other document management systems.

* Assists with projects.

The Legal Specialist II will be responsible for providing legal support services for multiple states and enterprise-wide functions which utilize a recognized area of specialization and knowledge specific to the company.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

* Prepares, analyzes, and evaluates legal documents such as contracts, legal memoranda, objections to subpoenas, regulatory filings and pleadings to resolve problems, and/or close transactions.

* Conducts legal research and analysis, and recommends appropriate course of action and next steps.

* Performs fact checking, gathers documents, researches and responds to subpoenas, record requests, and various inquiries from internal and external sources, coordinates investigative and discovery activities, and manages e-Discovery processes.

* Monitors state and federal legislation affecting the corporation, and develops and/or implements recommendations relative to changes in regulations and laws.

* Participates on projects and may participate in negotiations and strategizing with business and staff.

* Enters information as required into appropriate databases or other document management systems.

* May serve as a resource to other support staff.

The Legal Specialist Sr. will be responsible for leading support staff and providing legal support services for multiple states, enterprise-wide functions which utilize a recognized area of specialization and knowledge specific to the company.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

* Serves as a seasoned resource and may lead and/or coach other support staff.

* Prepares and evaluates legal documentation to resolve problems, close transactions, and/or maintain good corporate governance.

* Conducts legal research and analysis, and recommends appropriate course of action and next steps.

* Performs fact checking, gathers documents, researches and responds to subpoenas, record requests, and various inquiries from internal and external sources, coordinates investigative and discovery activities.

* Serves as a lead in the investigation and resolution of the most complex cases.

* Monitors state and federal legislation affecting the corporation, and develops and/or implements recommendations relative to changes in regulations and laws.

* Attends and represents company at appropriate legal proceedings, arbitration hearings, and/or subsidiary company's board meetings under supervision of counsel.

* Applies business knowledge and technical expertise to optimize solutions and improve practices.

* Participates in projects and may participate in negotiations and strategizing with business and staff.

* Enters information into appropriate databases or other document management systems.

Legal Specialist:

Requires a high school diploma; 2 years of legal or related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Paralegal Certification or an AA/AS/BA/BS in a related field preferred.

Legal Specialist II:

Requires Paralegal Certification or an AA/AS/BA/BS in a related field; 5 years of legal or related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Legal Specialist Sr:

Requires Paralegal Certification or an AA/AS/BA/BS in a related field; 10 years of legal or related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
