Position Summary

The Research Scientist I is an experienced bench scientist who contributes to the development of novel therapeutics that address dysregulation of the complement system. Primary responsibilities include conducting the laboratory research to discover, characterize and optimizes therapeutic antibodies and fusion proteins. The Research Scientist is also relied upon for the design and timely delivery of protein reagents required by teams to achieve their research objectives.

Principal Responsibilities

* Discovery and optimization of protein therapeutics; accomplished through hands-on laboratory work and managing CROs

* Participation in cross functional teams to deliver experimental data and serve as a molecular biology subject matter expert

* Characterization of the specificity and functional properties of novel protein therapeutics; assay development as necessary

* Plan and conduct experiments; manage workflow and project timelines

* Act as a single point of contact between project team leaders and the protein expression laboratories to ensure delivery of protein reagents

* Maintain detailed and accurate records

* Generate technical reports to support regulatory filings

* Present results at group and departmental meetings

* Remain current on new advances in antibody discovery and complement biology through literature research and attendance at relevant scientific meetings.

Qualifications

* Experience with state-of-the-art library-based antibody discovery technologies

* In depth understanding of antibody sequence analysis, humanization and affinity maturation

* Experience with characterizing antibody specificity

* Binding and ligand/receptor antagonism assays

* Proficient in protein expression, purification and characterization

* Ability to work independently and apply scientific principles to formulate hypotheses. Ability to design and conduct experiments that produce meaningful results

* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to thrive matrix research organization

* Capacity for independent research and interdisciplinary collaboration

* Highly organized with attention to detail

* Excellent communication skills

Education

* PhD with 1-3 years' relevant experience. Highly qualified candidates with BS/MS and at least 6 years relevant experience will also be considered.
