DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the supervisor, either directly or through the lead person, the tool maker is responsible for the proper set-up and operation of various tool room equipment with minimal supervision in the manufacture, repair or maintenance of a variety of tooling.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

* Determine the best methods and machines required in the manufacture or repair of tools to close tolerances.

* Maintain equipment in good working order through both periodic and proper lubrication and reporting of maintenance requirements to the lead person or supervisor on a timely basis.

* Keep work area and machine clean along with proper segregation, identification and transportation of parts in the work area.

* Acquisitioning, through the lead person and the supervisor, any tool, and supplies required to accomplish an assigned job.

* Train new employees as required.

* Maintain accurate production records and counts, perform unusual or experimental work and perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor.

* Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

* Able to operate variety of machine tools such as lathes, millers, universal grinders, surface grinders and tooling such as collets, chucks, compression and cold head dies, punches, assembly fixtures, jaws, drill jigs, etc.

* Able to use and interpret various precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, indicators and related gaging instruments.
