Newtown Savings Bank is seeking a collections multi-tasker with 1-2 years of experience for a Small Business Account Resolution Specialist I opportunity.   

Under the direction of Supervisor, this position is responsible for the collection of delinquent accounts in compliance with Bank procedures as well as with State and Federal collection regulations.


  • Develop an understanding of Bank Policy and Asset Recovery Practices and Procedures.

  • Develop an understanding of the U.S. Small Business Administration Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in order to utilize or preserve existing SBA guaranty.

  • Develop an understanding of EIP to review daily monitoring.

  • The primary focus of this position is to collect the Bank’s Small Business Loans.  The collector must demonstrate that they have been diligent in their collection efforts.

  • Ensure that customer contact information is correct, including phone numbers, email and mailing addresses, and ensure that the business is still operating.

  • Monitor borrower’s Line of Credit loan balance as well as related deposit balances to ensure that the Line of Credit and Deposit account are being used appropriately.

  • Contact borrowers in effort to secure payments on past due loans in accordance to Bank policies/procedures and Fair Debt Collection Practices while utilizing loss mitigation strategies, as necessary.  Document all collection efforts and maintain accurate and up-to date files.

  • Complete necessary due diligence to locate guarantors or individual co-borrowers of a business entity by using credit bureau information, background checks as well as other means allowable in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices. 

  • Submit service requests to Loan Servicing such as waiving of a fee or reapply a payment etc.

  • Provide prompt and courteous service to all external and internal customers.

  • Perform other duties as required.



  • Must have a High school diploma and 1-2 years of collections experience and general knowledge of collection laws and practices is required.

  • Must possess organizational and analytical abilities.

  • Have the ability to problem solve.

  • Must have good oral and written communication skills; be able to communicate with customers professionally, with tact and diplomacy. 

  • Must pay attention to detail, work within deadlines, be able to work independently or in a team environment. 

  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel and Outlook. 

  • Familiarity with the Jack Henry operating system, as well as experience with internet search engines for research, is a plus.
