Newtown Savings Bank is seeking a motivated, detail oriented Credit Analyst II with 2-4 years’ experience to join our Credit Department at our corporate location in Newtown, CT.  

This position is responsible for completing the analytical workbook for the Bank’s existing and prospective business customers. The Credit Analyst II underwrites the Bank’s complex renewals/reviews of existing loans, mid level modifications of existing loans, and basic level new loan requests. Assigns risk ratings to new loans and reviews existing risk ratings for accuracy. Provides recommendations to Accounts Officers.  Assures conformity to Bank policies and procedures.  Provides additional analysis and assists with projects as needed/assigned.



  • Thorough understanding of the Bank’s loan policy.

  • Thorough understanding of the Bank’s credit department procedures. 

  • Complete analytical workbook for the Bank’s existing and prospective business customers.  Workbook to include the spreading of financial information and calculation of various analytical ratios testing liquidity, leverage, debt to income, and debt service coverage.  Make decisions on customization of the analytical ratios based on type of customer, nature of operations, and industry.

  • At inception of the underwriting process, review file to assure all necessary information and documentation has been received.  Work with Account Officers to obtain any missing information or documentation.  

  • Underwrite the Bank’s complex renewals/reviews of existing loans, mid level modifications of existing loans, and basic level new loan requests.  Underwriting document to include narrative on the nature, history, and ownership of all borrowers and guarantors, detail on the structure and usage of each loan, collateral analysis on each loan, overview of reporting requirements, covenant compliance analysis, borrowing base compliance analysis, complete credit analysis on all borrowers and guarantors, identification and mitigation of exceptions to the Bank’s loan policy, and an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of the relationship. 

  • Make recommendations to the Account Officers based on the structure of the transaction and controls of the transaction.

  • Assign risk ratings to new loans and review existing risk ratings for accuracy, recommending adjustments as necessary.

  • Attend committee meetings to support the Account Officers with respect to any questions that may arise related to the underwriting document. 

  • Provide additional analysis and assist with projects as needed/assigned.

  • Efficiently manage workflow and meet deadlines with a general level of supervision.

  • Promote the Bank and the Bank’s services.

  • Provide prompt and courteous service to all external and internal customers.



  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance OR a bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or mathematics with advanced coursework in accounting or finance. 

  • Must have 2-4  years’ experience in a business lending credit function.

  • Must have a working knowledge of the standard suite of MS Office Products, with advanced knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, function independently, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment.  Displays initiative in departmental responsibilities and projects. 

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
