Under the direction of the Manager Lab Specimen Processing the Inventory Associate is responsible for ordering and managing laboratory and clerical supplies and equipment used by all laboratory departments. This includes the inventory, ordering, receipt, stocking, return, delivery and processing of all materials. This individual must maintain perpetual inventory records of supplies on hand, ordered and received. Monitors expenses for items and coordinates a multitude of supply responsibilities to ensure that inventory room is fully stocked and that the highest quality customer service is provided.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Procures and maintains inventory levels for all supplies in the Laboratory Medicine inventory room ensuring appropriate inventory levels recording to established par levels in order to properly supply all laboratory departments.
    • 1.1 In conjunction with the various laboratory sections, requests supplies from the Storeroom and from Purchasing to maintain appropriate levels of stock in all supply areas. (Lawson and purchase orders)
  • 2. Appropriately communicates to all customers on product and policy issues and assumes responsibility for environment of care.
    • 2.1 Keeps laboratory leadership informed of supply problems, such as back orders, inappropriate utilization.
  • 3. Assumes responsibility for personal /professional growth and development. May train and development of other staff
    • 3.1 Trains back-up staff as required to ensure coverage in case of absence.
  • 4. Assists in the formulation of strategies to improve budget performance and to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
    • 4.1 Analyzes the quantity and quality of supplies and recommends changes to reduce cost to Manager documenting progress in this area.
  • 5. Executes and coordinates the routine and emergency procurement and loaning of supplies and equipment as required or needed providing high quality customer service by efficiently processing requests keeping customer informed of progress or problems.
    • 5.1 Locates acquires and ensures delivery of appropriate supplies and/or equipment as requested by Laboratory Managers.
  • 6. Demonstrates a commitment to providing the highest possible quality of service to all customers including patients and their families, physicians, Laboratory Leadership and staff from other departments or areas.
    • 6.1 Demonstrates tact, patience and understanding when interacting with any customers.
Qualifications
EDUCATION

High School diploma,; some college coursework preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 3 years working with hospital inventory, Medical/Surgical Supplies in a laboratory, OR, CSS or Materials Management capacity. Experience in purchasing and procurement is preferred. Must be familiar with Materials Management Functions of inventory, ordering, receipt and stocking, review of usage reports and development of appropriate PAR levels. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Demonstrated competency in operating handheld and desktop computer systems as needed for supply ordering, replenishment and project work. Must be able to operate a computer system for data entry, extraction, analysis, report generation and information management

Additional Information
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA; SOME COLLEGE COURSEWORK PREFERRED. MINIMUM OF 3 YEARS WORKING WITH HOSPITAL INVENTORY, MEDICAL/SURGICAL SUPPLIES IN A LABORATORY, OR, CSS OR MATERIALS MANAGEMENT CAPACITY. EXPERIENCE IN PURCHASING AND PROCUREMENT IS PREFERRED.
