We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic writer with highly developed organizational and project management skills.
Position is responsible for managing the completion of RFPs and related marketing documents for WellPoint's existing and prospective Commercial clients (both large local and national). Position is responsible for custom and culturally aligned content to best present our organization?s exceptional capabilities to our clients. Coordinates with Sales, Underwriting, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather information, and uses this information to write custom content that clearly articulates our solution and its associated benefits.
* Owns and manages the entire proposal process for large and complex RFPs from receipt of the RFP through the development and production in accordance with consultant deadlines and specifications
* Ensures proposals meet or exceed all RFP requirements and reflect winning strategies and themes
* Reviews RFP in its entirety to identify requirements and confirm receipt of all associated attachments and exhibits and develops a project plan based on those deliverables.
* Interprets questionnaires, researches answers using the proposal database (PMAPS) and crafts customized responses based on RFP requirements and information obtained during strategy meetings
* Participates in and/or facilitates strategy meetings with Sales, Underwriting and other appropriate SMEs
* Effectively manages timeline and negotiates delivery dates with Sales, SMEs, matrix partners; identifies and engages appropriate SMEs as needed
* Proofreads, edits and standardizes proposal text for proper grammar, spelling, comprehension, and corporate style
* Performs peer quality reviews in compliance with the Quality Review Process document
* Assists Proposal Research staff with the integration, writing, editing and updating of relevant RFP content gleaned during the RFP process spanning all products, services and markets
* Coordinates with the Marketing organization for the formatting, assembly and shipping of final proposal
* Provides consultative direction and training to less experienced team members, and serves as a proposal team SME having a thorough understanding of the proposal process
* Leads team and/or cross functional projects to improve efficiency of process and quality of content
* Handles a larger percentage of complex, highly strategic and customized RFPs

Key Qualifications and Skill Sets
* Prior experience with writing RFPs and knowledge of the private/public sector RFP procurement process
* Communicates ideas both verbally and in written form in a clear, concise, and professional manner; establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management
* Demonstrated skills in managing project under tight deadlines
* Attention to detail, accuracy and confidentiality
* Strong custom writing proofreading and editing skills required
* PMAPS (or other content management system) experience a plus
* Understanding of Shipley Proposal Development or other proven proposal processes is desired
* Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and web-based proposal tools/applications
Works under minimal supervision. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. Assignments are broad in nature and usually require originality and ingenuity. May not have daily contact with Manager/Director. Associates in the Proposal Development Consultant position are expected to work independently and make decisions that impact daily work functions. In addition, these individuals are expected to mentor their peers in effective decision making.
Education/Experience Requirements
* Requires a bachelor?s degree, preferably in English, Journalism, Marketing or Communications
* A minimum of 5 years of proposal experience or any combination of education and experience providing an equivalent background
* Understanding of and prior experience in the health care industry is preferred
