Description Bob s Stores / Eastern Mountain Sports is seeking the right candidate to join our Accounting department as the Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting. This role reports directly to the VP of Finance and is located at the Home Office in Meriden, CT.
The Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting is the company spokesperson on all accounting related topics. As a senior level role in the company, this person is also a trusted partner for senior management on complex topics of a financial nature.
Key Job Functions:
  • Overall responsibility for delivering accurate internal and external financial statements on a timely basis.
  • Monitor the monthly closing process.
  • Review general ledger activity.
  • Ensure proper internal controls are in place and enhance when necessary.
  • Ensure federal and state tax compliance for income, sales/use, and property taxes.
  • Lead ad hoc projects within the accounting department and work with other department leaders regarding financial impact of business initiatives. Examples include new software deployment, mergers and acquisitions, etc.
  • Maintain complete and accurate recordkeeping of the company capital structure.
  • Supervise accounting team, review reconciliation and other prepared documents, and provide solutions when needed.
  • Coordinate annual audit, tax audits and other mandatory reviews and audits.
  • Stay informed of emerging accounting issues and how they impact the business.
What we are looking for:
  • Education / Experience: CPA, MBA or equivalent experience in a senior level accounting role for a retail or ecommerce business.
  • Knowledge:Expert knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) related to retail industry. Ability to research and analyze accounting literature translating its applicability to the company.
  • Communication:Must be a confident and concise verbal communicator with all levels of the company. Demonstrate solid written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills: Familiarity with general ledger accounting software. Proficient with Microsoft Office - particularly Excel. Understanding of how basic database operates. Ability to quickly learn and apply new technology, as needed.
  • Math: Strong financial math skills and accuracy.
  • Management:Ability to lead a team of professional accountants and the ability to properly distribute workflow among the team. Properly manage and prioritize task list to meet deadlines. Strongly detail oriented consistently able to maintain standards. Highly effective at organizing work.
  • Problem Solving:Use patient problem solving and critical thinking skills to find the best solution to the issue at hand.
